Friday Favourites – Maple & Spud

Last year I bought a Teepee for my Daughter and immediately wanted to keep it for myself!!  From the Floral Fairy Lights to the Personalised Flag to the Window Opening and the lovely surprise Fairy Door print on the side, it is just stunning and even nicer in person.  The very talented Nuala O’Farrell of Maple and Spud took on board all of my fussy requests and created the most perfect Teepee for Eva!!

Pride of Place in Eva’s Bedroom!

Nuala and her husband were both born in Ireland and their sons were born in Canada.  The four of them have dual citizenship and this is how the name Maple and Spud came about!  Nuala and Kev moved to Canada when she was 21.  She picked up a sewing machine in a garage sale, learned how to sew by taking quilting lessons and began making quilts.  Nuala moved back to Ireland after 15 years and continued her sewing.  She started teaching sewing and quilting classes and after finishing a particularly difficult quilt (200+ hours) she decided she wanted to sew something a lot less time consuming.  Nuala took inspiration from Pinterest when she spotted a Teepee and after a week of trying to figure out how to do the windows she made one!

In February 2015, Nuala opened her Etsy shop and had her first sale within five days.  Even though she now ships worldwide, her first sale was to a customer less than five minutes from her current home and her second sale was to a lady who lived in the Town Nuala had lived in when she was in Canada!

Maple and Spud design and craft teepees for children.  These teepees are used for play and are also used as an aid for children with special needs who may need a space in which to find comfort.  They often work with parents and interior designers to create a completely personalised and original design that works within the current decor.  Other products include Playmats, Cushions, Buntings and Bed roll-outs.

Within 8 months of making her first teepee, Nuala quit her job and became self employed and is it any wonder when you look at how amazing her work is!  The care and detail that goes into each Teepee is second to none.

Maple and Spud have a new line of products coming very soon so keep an eye on their Facebook and Instagram Accounts.

Nuala has very kindly offered a 10% discount to all my Jessica Diaries Readers!  Just use the code JESSICADIARIES10 when placing an order through their online shop here.

I can’t wait for my son Ben to outgrow his Cot so I can fit a new Teepee in his Bedroom!!  I already have my eye on the Ahoy Matey one for his Nautical themed room. Which one is your favourite?

Thanks for stopping by!
